Scruffy Beard Tips & Styling

The scruffy beard, even though it does not make you look well-groomed, is very popular nowadays. This scruffy beard style somehow symbolizes manliness and strength, maybe a little ruggedness. Some say it is a cool beard style because Hollywood celebrities have scruffy beards, however movie stars aren’t the typical role models for beard growing…unless it’s near Halloween and a costume is in order.

It is not very easy to grow a scruffy beard. It usually takes time and a good grooming technique to get the right scruffy beard for your face. The scruffy beard look is not for everyone because if you are unable to grow a full beard, this beard style might just look like you’re between electric razors…or jobs.  As you can imagine, patchy beards or thin facial hairs will also fail to do the scruffy beard style any justice.

If you are dedicated on having a scruffy beard, the first thing you have to do is to grow your beard out. Your beard should grow up to more than 1/4 inch.

You should know your beard line…that shadow slowly growing on your face.  Once you know your beard line, you should avoid shaving this area in a straight line. It is recommended that you shave in curved lines so that your neck and beard can have a softer look.

Now the next thing you have to do is to get your adjustable beard clipper and use the #1 comb guard. Put your trimmer on the highest cut setting or the number 1 setting. The proper way to trim your beard is from the neck towards the chin and always trims against the direction of your facial hair. For an unruly beard, you can shave the outline first with a razor before using your beard trimmer.

If you are not satisfied with the first trim, you can do it again but this time use the lowest setting which is 0 or zero. Also, place the #2 comb guard when you choose the lowest setting.

Trim your moustache starting from the middle going to right and do the same for the left side. The scruffy beard needs to be maintained and trimmed depending on how fast your facial hair grows, but as you know…every few days will likely be sufficient.

Happy grooming!
